Which broker is best for trading the Hang Seng Tech index?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Honest answer: we could not confirm a Hang Seng Tech index CFD at Pepperstone, Capital.com or XS from their published pages, so we cannot name a best broker for that exact index.
  • Pepperstone remains our pick for Hong Kong index trading overall, with HK50 at a 5-point average spread and CN50 at 10.2 points, both commission-free.
  • Pepperstone also lists 46 HKEX share CFDs, which may let you trade individual tech names; the list is not published, so check the symbols.
  • Pepperstone serves Hong Kong through Pepperstone Markets Limited (SCB Bahamas, SIA-F217) and holds no SFC licence.

The Hang Seng Tech index is a narrower, more volatile cousin of the main Hang Seng, and fewer CFD brokers quote it. None of the brokers we rank for Hong Kong lists it in the data we verified. Here is what Pepperstone, our overall pick, does offer and how to find a Tech contract if one exists.

What Pepperstone offers instead

Pepperstone's index range runs to 26 index CFDs, and the ones relevant to Hong Kong are HK50 (5-point average spread) and CN50, the China A50 (10.2-point average). Neither is the Tech index. For targeted tech exposure, Pepperstone says it offers 46 share CFDs on HKEX-listed companies at 0.2% commission per side, but it does not publish which 46. Before you open an account for this purpose, ask Pepperstone support (the international contact page says 24/7) whether a Hang Seng Tech contract or your chosen tech names are available. We still rank Pepperstone first for Hong Kong index traders on published costs and platforms, accepting that it is not SFC-licensed.

How to find a Tech index contract

  1. Search the platform symbol list for 'HSTECH', 'Tech' or 'HK Tech'; naming differs by broker.
  2. Open the contract specification to see the session hours, minimum size and margin rate.
  3. Compare its spread as a share of the index level with HK50; a thin market can make a cheap-looking spread expensive.
  4. Confirm which company issues the contract and who regulates it.

If you want regulated, exchange-traded exposure

CFDs are over-the-counter contracts with the broker. Exchange-listed products tracking the Tech index are bought through a securities broker instead. In our fact pack, Saxo Capital Markets HK Limited (CE No. AVD061) and Tiger Brokers (HK) Global Limited (CE No. BMU940) are on the SFC register; we have not verified their product lists.

Does Pepperstone offer a Hang Seng Tech CFD?

We could not confirm one from Pepperstone's published pages. Its Hong Kong index products in our data are HK50 and the HK50-F forward.

Is HK50 a good substitute for the Tech index?

Only partly. HK50 tracks the broad Hang Seng, which includes non-tech sectors, so it moves differently from a tech-only index.

Can I trade Hong Kong tech shares individually?

Pepperstone lists 46 HKEX share CFDs at 0.2% commission per side; check whether your chosen names are included.

CFDs are complex, leveraged products with a high risk of losing money quickly. Make sure you understand how they work and can afford the risk before you trade. This page is not investment advice; check each broker's current terms on its own site.
