What's the best broker for trading HK50 CFDs?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick for HK50 CFDs: a published 5-point average spread on both accounts, no commission on index CFDs, and HKD base accounts so your profit and loss stays in Hong Kong dollars.
  • Retail leverage on major indices reaches 1:200 at Pepperstone's international entity, so margin can be as low as 0.5% of the position; use much less.
  • Pepperstone has no SFC licence; Hong Kong clients sign with Pepperstone Markets Limited, regulated by the SCB in the Bahamas (SIA-F217).
  • Capital.com and XS accept Hong Kong residents but publish no HK50 spread in our data.

HK50 is the CFD most Hong Kong traders reach for first. The deciding factors are the spread, whether commission is added, the account currency and the platform. Pepperstone wins on all four in the data we hold, so it is our pick; below is the cost and margin arithmetic.

Why Pepperstone for HK50

Pepperstone publishes HK50 at a 5-point average spread, the same on Standard and Razor, and charges no commission on index CFDs, so the Standard account costs you nothing extra for index trading. Hold the account in HKD and your HK50 results need no conversion. You can trade it on MT4, MT5, cTrader or Pepperstone's app, and on TradingView with a Razor account. If you prefer a dated contract, an HK50-F forward is listed with a 10-point minimum spread. The point to weigh: Pepperstone serves Hong Kong from the Bahamas, and its international site says 80% of retail CFD accounts lose money.

HK50 cost and margin, worked out

A hypothetical example with the index at 25,000 and a position of HK$10 per point (notional HK$250,000):

One HK50 round trip at Pepperstone (published terms, hypothetical index level)
ItemAmount
Spread, 5 points x HK$10HK$50
CommissionHK$0
Margin at 1:200 (retail maximum)HK$1,250
Margin at 1:20 (a safer self-imposed limit)HK$12,500
Index move that wipes out 1:200 margin125 points, or 0.5%

How the alternatives compare

Capital.com, our second choice, accepts Hong Kong residents and lists indices at up to 200:1 retail leverage on its Bahamas entity, the same ceiling as Pepperstone. Its HK50 spread is not in our data, but it publishes a guaranteed stop-loss, useful if you hold HK50 into a news-driven open. XS, third, runs MT4 and MT5; its index pricing is not in our data either.

HK50 habits worth keeping

  • Watch the spread around the HKEX open and around mainland China data, when it is likely to be wider than the average.
  • Close or reduce before major announcements if you cannot afford a gap through your stop.
  • Count overnight financing if you hold for days; it can exceed the spread on long holds.
  • Pick HKD as the base currency if you fund from a Hong Kong bank account.

Is HK50 cheaper on Razor than Standard at Pepperstone?

No. Both publish a 5-point average and neither charges commission on index CFDs, so Standard is fine for HK50-only traders.

What leverage can I use on HK50?

Up to 1:200 as a retail client of Pepperstone's international entity, which serves Hong Kong.

Can I trade HK50 on TradingView with Pepperstone?

Yes, with a Razor account. The Standard account does not include TradingView.
