Can I use AI to trade forex, and which brokers support it?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Yes. You can use AI to research forex trades or to run a fully automated strategy, and Pepperstone, our top pick, supports the main routes: MT4 and MT5 expert advisors, cTrader cBots and API trading.
  • Capital.com also allows expert advisors on MT4 and MT5; XS offers MetaTrader but publishes no EA policy in our data.
  • AI does not remove forex risk: a model trained on past prices can fail in a new market, and leverage of up to 1:200 for UAE retail clients magnifies every mistake.
  • Test before funding properly: Pepperstone's $10 minimum lets you forward-test a model with real fills and real costs at small size.

AI can help in two very different ways: helping you think, or trading for you. Both are possible with mainstream brokers. What matters is that the execution and your money sit with a regulated firm, and that you measure the strategy honestly before you scale it.

Pepperstone supports the ways traders apply AI

Whether you write an expert advisor with an AI coding assistant or connect an external machine-learning model, Pepperstone has a route for it: EAs on MT4 and MT5 (its UAE algorithmic-trading page confirms they are allowed), C# cBots on cTrader Automate, and API trading. Eligible and Pro clients can also use a free VPS. For a UAE resident, the account can be held in AED with Razor pricing of 0.1 pips average on EUR/USD plus commission.

Three ways to use AI in forex

  1. As a research assistant: summarising central-bank statements, explaining a chart, or drafting a trading plan. You place every trade yourself.
  2. As a code writer: an AI assistant helps you write an EA or cBot from rules you define. The rules are yours; the AI only speeds up the coding.
  3. As the decision-maker: an external model generates signals and sends orders through an EA, cBot or API. This is the riskiest form and needs the most testing.

Testing an AI strategy without fooling yourself

  • Back-test with real costs: on Pepperstone Razor, about $7 to $8 per lot round turn on EUR/USD, plus overnight swap.
  • Keep data the model never saw for a final check; a model tuned on all history will look better than it is.
  • Forward-test live at the smallest size for weeks, and compare live fills with the back-test.
  • Set hard limits in the code: maximum position size, daily loss and number of open trades.

Where AI forex trading goes wrong

Most failures are not about the model being unintelligent. They come from over-fitting to past data, ignoring costs, using too much leverage, or a bot running unattended through a news spike. Pepperstone's terms say stop-loss orders cannot be guaranteed to fill at your level, so a bot's stop can slip like anyone else's. Retail clients do have negative balance protection under Pepperstone's UAE risk disclosure, which caps the damage at your account balance.

Can ChatGPT-style tools trade for me?

Not directly at a broker. They can help you write the rules or the code, but orders go through a platform such as MT5 or cTrader connected to your broker account.

Is an AI forex bot profitable?

There is no general answer, and no regulated broker can promise returns. Judge a bot only on long, cost-inclusive live results.

Which Pepperstone platform is best for an AI bot?

cTrader if you code in C# and want the lowest Razor commission ($3.00 per side on FX); MT5 if you use expert advisors.
