Which trading app has the best price alerts and notifications?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick because its UK accounts connect to the established alert systems in retail trading, TradingView's chart alerts and MetaTrader's push notifications, alongside cTrader and Pepperstone's own app.
  • No broker in our data publishes a like-for-like specification of its app alerts, so we compare the platforms you can reach rather than crown one app on unverified claims.
  • In the UK, TradingView and MT4 are on Pepperstone's spread betting and Razor CFD accounts, while the Standard CFD account offers MT5, cTrader and Pepperstone's platform.
  • Capital.com, our second choice, also connects to TradingView, MT4 and MT5, and adds guaranteed stops, which Pepperstone lacks.

A good alert tells you a level has broken before you have opened a chart. The alert usually comes from the charting software rather than the broker, so the strongest set-up is a broker that connects to the best charting tools. Here is how that works at Pepperstone, and what we could not verify.

Why we pick Pepperstone for alerts

Alerts are a platform feature, so the broker matters for which platforms you can use and what it costs to act once an alert fires. Pepperstone links its UK accounts to TradingView, MT4, MT5 and cTrader as well as its own web platform and app, so you can set alerts in the tool you already chart in and trade from the same account. Acting on an alert is cheap: Razor averages 0.1 pips on EUR/USD plus $3.50 per side on TradingView and MT5.

Where alerts come from on each platform

We have not tested the Pepperstone app's alert settings, and its pages in our data do not document them, so look in the app's settings before relying on it.

Alerts that change decisions, not just buzz

  • Alert on levels that would alter your plan, such as yesterday's high, a round number or the price where your idea is wrong, rather than every small move.
  • Pair price alerts with a reminder before major economic releases; spreads can widen and ordinary stops can slip in fast markets.
  • Keep alerts in one place: if you chart on TradingView, set them there instead of duplicating them in MetaTrader.
  • An alert is not an order. If you need protection while away from the screen, place the stop in the platform.
  • For the news behind a move, Pepperstone offers traders a free Bloomberg.com Premium Digital subscription (terms apply).

How Capital.com and others compare

Capital.com, our second choice in the UK, also offers TradingView, MT4 and MT5 next to its own web platform and app, so the same alert tools are within reach, and it adds guaranteed stop-losses. IG offers TradingView, MT4, MT5 and ProRealTime. Brokers without third-party platforms, such as Plus500 in our data, keep you inside their own app's alert set, which is simpler but harder to customise.

Platform availability as each broker publishes it.

Can I get price alerts on my phone with Pepperstone?

Yes, through the platforms it connects: TradingView and the MetaTrader mobile apps both deliver alerts to your phone. The Pepperstone app's own alert options are not documented in our data, so check its settings.

Is a price alert the same as a stop-loss?

No. An alert only tells you something happened; a stop-loss closes the trade. At Pepperstone stop-losses are not guaranteed and can fill at a worse price in a gap, so use both rather than one instead of the other.

Which Pepperstone account do I need for TradingView alerts?

In the UK, TradingView is available on the spread betting account and the Razor CFD account, not on Standard. Razor charges $3.50 per side on TradingView; spread betting has no commission.

Leveraged products such as CFDs and spread bets carry a high risk of losing money rapidly. Pepperstone reports that 73.6% of its UK retail investor accounts lose money on these products. Alerts can arrive late or not at all, so never rely on them alone. This is not investment advice.
