What is the spread on the Hong Kong 50 at UK brokers?
Verdict
- At Pepperstone, our pick, the Hong Kong 50 (HK50) index CFD has a published spread of 5 points, both minimum and average, on Razor and Standard alike, and index CFDs carry no commission.
- That figure comes from Pepperstone's index-fees page (August 2026 data, published on its Australian site); the UK pricing page does not list HK50, so confirm the live quote in your UK account.
- At £1 a point, a 5-point spread costs £5 to open and close a spread bet; at £10 a point it costs £50.
- None of the other FCA-regulated firms in our fact pack publishes a Hong Kong 50 spread, so a like-for-like comparison isn't possible from published figures alone.
Pepperstone is the one firm in our research that puts a number on the Hong Kong 50: 5 points, minimum and average. Below we explain where that figure comes from, what it means in pounds, how the forward version differs, and why you should check the quote in a UK account before relying on it.
Pepperstone's HK50 pricing, and where the number comes from
Pepperstone's index-fees page lists HK50 at a minimum of 5 points and an average of 5 points on Razor, and the same 5/5 on Standard, based on August 2026 data. Index CFDs carry no commission, so the spread is the whole dealing cost of a position closed the same day. Unlike most indices on that page, there is no gap between the two account types on HK50, so a UK trader who picks Razor for its forex pricing gives nothing up on this index. The page sits on Pepperstone's Australian site; the UK costs page publishes minimums for UK100, GER40, US500, NAS100 and JPN225 but not for HK50. UK accounts are held with Pepperstone Limited, authorised by the FCA (684312), and HK50 is part of its 26-index range.

What 5 points costs you in pounds
With a spread bet you choose a stake per point, so the arithmetic is simply spread multiplied by stake. With a CFD, the money value of a point depends on the contract size shown in the platform's symbol details.
| Stake per point | One round trip | Ten round trips |
|---|---|---|
| £1 | £5 | £50 |
| £2 | £10 | £100 |
| £5 | £25 | £250 |
| £10 | £50 | £500 |
Cash HK50 or the HK50 forward?
The same Pepperstone page lists a forward contract, HK50-F, with a minimum spread of 10 points, double the cash index. In general, forward index CFDs are aimed at traders who hold for weeks, with the holding cost reflected in the price rather than charged night by night; confirm how your account treats them before relying on that. For a trade you open and close within the day, the cash HK50 is the cheaper of the two on spread alone.
What other UK firms publish
We checked the published pricing of the FCA-regulated firms in our fact pack. Capital.com (FCA 793714) shows only live, dynamic spreads, so there is no static HK50 figure to quote. IG, CMC Markets and Spreadex publish headline forex figures but no Hong Kong 50 spread on the pages we verified. That doesn't make them wider or tighter; it means you'd need to compare live quotes at the same moment. Each does offer something Pepperstone lacks:
- Capital.com: guaranteed stop-loss orders, plus spread betting, from a £20 deposit.
- IG: spread betting through IG Index Ltd and guaranteed stops, with a premium charged only if the stop is triggered.
- CMC Markets: spread betting and guaranteed stops, with the fee refunded if the stop isn't hit.
Three things to check beyond the spread
- Margin: the UK retail cap is 1:20 for major indices; look at the margin rate the platform shows for HK50 before sizing a position.
- Timing: the Hong Kong session falls in the UK night and early morning, so check the quote at the hour you actually plan to trade.
- Holding cost: Pepperstone charges an overnight fee on positions still open after 10 pm UK time.

CFDs and spread bets are complex leveraged products and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly. Make sure you understand how they work and can afford the risk. This is not investment advice; figures are the brokers' own published data and can change.
