Which broker offers the widest range of stock indices?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick for index range: its UK account table lists 26 index instruments on both spread betting and CFD accounts, covering the US, UK, Europe and Asia.
  • Pepperstone's own pages also say "20+" and "more than 20 major stock indices", and we haven't verified rivals' index counts, so we don't claim it is the single largest list.
  • Breadth is only useful with tight pricing: Pepperstone's published minimums include 0.4 points on the US500 and 0.9 on the GER40.

Index traders rarely need hundreds of markets, but they do need the major benchmarks of each region, at low spreads, from one account. Pepperstone publishes both its index count and per-index spreads. Here is which indices it names, how cash indices differ from index forwards, and why a bigger list isn't automatically better.

Pepperstone's index range

Pepperstone's UK account comparison counts 26 indices for spread betting and the same 26 for its Standard and Razor CFD accounts (data sourced 12 March 2025). Pepperstone Limited, authorised by the FCA (684312), offers them with no commission on spread bets and retail leverage up to 1:20 on major indices.

Cash indices versus index forwards

Pepperstone's index fee page also lists forwards on several indices, with wider minimum spreads than the cash versions: 3 points on the UK100 and GER40 forwards against 1 and 0.9 on the cash markets, and 1 on the US500 forward against 0.4. Forwards are dated contracts, so a count that includes them can inflate an index range without adding new markets.

Why the count isn't the whole story

  • Counts mix things: Pepperstone's DE site lists currency-index CFDs too, which aren't stock indices.
  • Rival totals aren't in our verified data, so a side-by-side count would be guesswork.
  • Most index traders use five or six benchmarks; spread and session hours on those matter more.
  • UK retail leverage is the same 1:20 on major indices at every FCA firm we checked, Capital.com included.

A second option

Capital.com, FCA-authorised (793714), offers indices as spread bets or CFDs, with 20:1 retail leverage on major indices and guaranteed stop-losses that Pepperstone doesn't provide. Check its index list against the markets you trade.

How many indices does Pepperstone offer?

26 on its UK spread betting and CFD accounts, according to its account table (data from 12 March 2025).

Does Pepperstone offer the Hang Seng and Nikkei?

Its fee pages list the HK50 and JPN225; confirm both appear in your UK platform's symbol list.

Are index forwards cheaper than cash indices?

Not on spread: Pepperstone's published forward minimums are wider, for example 3 points on the UK100 forward against 1 on the cash index.

Index CFDs and spread bets are leveraged and can lose money fast. Pepperstone states 73.6% of its UK retail investor accounts lose money on these products. We publish broker-stated terms; this is not investment advice.
