Which forex brokers offer exotic currency pairs?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick for exotic pairs from the UK: it lists 90+ currency pairs (93 FX CFDs and 91 FX spread bets in its account tables), far more than the seven majors and their crosses.
  • Pepperstone doesn't publish exotic-pair spreads on the pages we verified, and nor do the other UK brokers we track, so check the live spread and swap on each pair before you trade.
  • Exotics cost more to hold and trade: wider spreads, larger overnight swaps and thinner liquidity outside their home sessions.
  • UK retail leverage on non-major pairs is lower than on majors; Capital.com's UK company, for example, lists 20:1 on non-major FX against 30:1 on majors.

Exotic pairs match a major currency with one from a smaller or emerging economy, such as the Turkish lira, South African rand or Mexican peso. Most large UK brokers offer some. The useful questions are how many, on which platforms, and what they really cost. Pepperstone's range and platform choice put it first.

Pepperstone: 90+ pairs across five platforms

Pepperstone's UK markets page lists 90+ FX pairs, and its account tables count 93 FX instruments on the CFD accounts and 91 on the spread betting account (data sourced 12 March 2025). You can trade them on MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView and Pepperstone's own platform, depending on account. On Razor, FX commission is £2.25 per lot per side in a GBP account, and Razor passes raw spreads through rather than adding a mark-up. Pepperstone Limited is regulated by the FCA (684312).

What makes exotic pairs more expensive

Cost and risk factors on exotic pairs compared with majors
FactorMajors (e.g. EUR/USD)Exotics (e.g. USD/TRY)
SpreadTight; Pepperstone Razor EUR/USD averages 0.1 pipsMuch wider; check live in the platform
Overnight swapUsually modestCan be large where interest rates differ sharply
LiquidityDeep almost around the clockThin outside the local session
UK retail leverageUp to 1:30Lower, e.g. 20:1 at Capital.com UK
Gap riskLowerHigher around political or central-bank shocks

Other UK brokers with wide FX ranges

Capital.com, our second choice in the UK (FCA 793714), offers forex CFDs and spread bets, MT4 and MT5, and a 20:1 retail cap on non-major FX. Its pair count and exotic spreads aren't in our verified data. IG and CMC Markets also offer FX spread bets and CFDs, but we haven't verified their exotic ranges either. Since none of these firms publishes comparable exotic spreads, the fair comparison is in their platforms on the pair you want.

Checks before trading an exotic pair

  1. Find the exact pair in the platform's symbol list; ranges change and not every exotic is offered on every account.
  2. Note the spread during the pair's home session and outside it.
  3. Read the long and short swap in the symbol specification; on some exotics one side costs much more than the other.
  4. Size positions for wider swings; a 1:20 cap still allows a sharp move to wipe out margin.
  5. Avoid holding through local elections or central-bank meetings unless that is your trade.
