Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick for US share CFDs from Singapore: 600+ US shares on NYSE and NASDAQ, commission of $0.02 per share each way, and 100+ US share CFDs that trade 24 hours a day, five days a week.
  • Retail leverage on shares is up to 1:20 under Pepperstone's Bahamas licence; Pepperstone holds no MAS licence.
  • MAS-licensed brokers in our data that offer CFDs include IG, CMC Markets, Saxo and Plus500; Tiger Brokers offers real US shares, not CFDs.
  • A share CFD gives you price exposure only: no ownership, no shareholder votes, and financing on positions held overnight.

Several brokers let Singapore residents trade US stocks as CFDs, but the cost structures differ: some charge per share, others build the cost into the spread. Pepperstone uses a simple per-share commission and adds round-the-clock trading on its most popular US names. Here is what that costs and who else offers it.

Pepperstone's US share CFDs

Pepperstone lists more than 600 US share CFDs from the NYSE and NASDAQ, part of 1,162 share CFDs in its account tables. Commission on US shares and ETFs is $0.02 per share per side, with no minimum. More than 100 of the most traded names also come in a 24-hour version, marked with a '-24' suffix (AAPL.US-24, for example), so you can trade them during Singapore daytime when the US market is shut.

Which broker is best for trading US share CFDs?

For a Singapore resident, Pepperstone if you want a published per-share rate, 24-hour access on popular names and the platform choice of MT5, cTrader and TradingView. A MAS-licensed broker if local supervision matters more than price; in our data IG, CMC Markets, Saxo and Plus500 run Singapore companies with MAS licences, though we hold no US share CFD pricing for them. XS, our second choice for Singapore on forex, has no US share CFD pricing in our data either.

Share CFDs vs owning the shares

  • Ownership: a CFD tracks the price; you hold no shares and get no vote. A stockbroker such as Tiger Brokers, which is MAS-licensed, sells the shares themselves.
  • Leverage: Pepperstone allows retail clients up to 1:20 on shares under its Bahamas licence, so $1,000 of margin can hold a $20,000 position.
  • Holding cost: CFD positions held overnight pay financing; owned shares do not.
  • Short selling: a CFD lets you sell first and buy back later, which a cash share account usually does not.

Checks before trading US share CFDs

  1. Confirm the share is on the broker's list and whether a 24-hour version exists.
  2. Work out commission for your usual position size, not just the headline rate.
  3. Look up the overnight financing for the share before holding beyond a day.
  4. Remember the account sits with Pepperstone Markets Limited in the Bahamas, not a MAS-licensed company.
