Which spread betting brokers offer weekend trading?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone remains our overall pick for UK spread betting, but it publishes no weekend markets for UK retail clients; its 24/7 products are for professional clients only.
  • Crypto, the usual weekend market, can't be sold to UK retail clients as a derivative under the FCA's 2021 ban.
  • Pepperstone's perpetual CFDs trade 24/7, but in the UK only professional clients can use them, and professionals give up negative balance protection.
  • We have not verified weekend markets at other UK firms, so check directly before you open an account for that purpose.

If weekend trading is the reason you're choosing a spread betting firm, start with what UK rules allow. The FCA ban on crypto derivatives removes the most common weekend market for retail clients, and Pepperstone keeps its round-the-clock products for professional clients. Below is what Pepperstone does offer, what the professional route costs you, and how to manage weekend gaps on positions you hold.

Short answer: not for UK retail clients at Pepperstone

Pepperstone's UK site lists no weekend spread betting market for retail clients. We still rate it our first choice for weekday spread betting: no commission, published minimums such as 0.5 on EUR/USD and 0.4 on the US500, five platforms, and FCA authorisation for Pepperstone Limited (684312). If weekend markets are essential, confirm another firm's offer in writing before you deposit.

Why crypto bets aren't the weekend answer in the UK

Crypto trades every day of the week, which is why most "weekend trading" offers are crypto. The FCA banned the sale, marketing and distribution of crypto derivatives to retail consumers from 6 January 2021. Pepperstone's UK site has no retail crypto page, and crypto appears only on its professional page and professional margin table.

Perpetual CFDs: 24/7, but professional clients only

Pepperstone launched perpetual CFDs in 2026. They have no expiry, trade 24/7 and cover underlyings such as NAS100, US500, gold and WTI and Brent crude. In the UK they are for professional clients only. To qualify, Pepperstone requires two of three tests:

  • 10 significantly sized trades per quarter over the last year.
  • A financial-instrument portfolio over €500,000.
  • At least one year working in the financial sector with knowledge of derivatives.

What professional status costs you

Professional clients get higher leverage, up to 1:500 on FX, indices and gold, but Pepperstone states that negative balance protection won't apply to them. A weekend gap on a large leveraged position can then leave you owing money. For most retail traders that trade-off isn't worth a few weekend hours.

Holding spread bets over the weekend

  • Markets can open on Monday far from Friday's close, and Pepperstone's UK terms say stops can't be guaranteed.
  • Each night a bet stays open past 10 pm UK time adds an overnight fee.
  • Capital.com, which also offers UK spread betting, publishes guaranteed stop-losses that cap a gap loss at a set level.
  • Pepperstone's support runs 18 hours at weekends, according to its accounts page, if you need help before Monday's open.

Can I trade crypto at the weekend with a UK spread betting account?

Not as a retail client. The FCA bans the sale of crypto derivatives to retail consumers, and Pepperstone offers crypto in the UK only to professional clients.

Does Pepperstone offer 24-hour trading on anything for UK retail clients?

It lists 24-hour trading on selected US share CFDs, five days a week, not at weekends.

Is it worth becoming a professional client to trade at weekends?

Think carefully: professional clients at Pepperstone lose negative balance protection, so losses can exceed the account balance.

Leveraged spread bets and CFDs can lose money rapidly, and weekend gaps can make losses larger. According to Pepperstone, 73.6% of retail investor accounts lose money with it on these products. This is not investment advice; check each firm's terms directly.
