What currency conversion fees do brokers charge on SGD deposits?
Verdict
- The cleanest answer is to avoid conversion altogether: Pepperstone, our pick, lets Singapore traders hold the account in SGD, so an SGD deposit into an SGD account needs no currency switch.
- Where currencies differ, charges vary: ActivTrades publishes a 0.5% conversion fee; XS takes deposits only in EUR, USD or GBP into USD, EUR or JPY accounts.
- Pepperstone publishes its deposits as free, but its conversion rate for mismatched currencies is not in the terms we verified, so ask before funding in another currency.
- Profits on USD-quoted instruments are still converted into SGD when they hit an SGD account.
A conversion fee applies when the money you send is in a different currency from your trading account. For a Singapore trader paying in dollars from a local bank or card, the fix is a broker that offers SGD accounts. Here is who does, what the others charge, and where conversion still creeps in.
Pepperstone: fund in SGD, trade in SGD
SGD is one of ten base currencies on Pepperstone's international site, alongside USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, CHF, JPY, NZD and HKD. Open the account in SGD and fund it with an SGD card, and nothing needs converting on the way in; Pepperstone lists its deposit methods as free. Razor commission is quoted in SGD too, at 4.55 per side per standard lot. The account is held by Pepperstone Markets Limited in the Bahamas (SCB, SIA-F217); Pepperstone has no MAS licence.

Who charges what when currencies differ
Capital.com is not listed because our broker data shows it does not accept Singapore residents.
| Broker | SGD account? | What is published on conversion |
|---|---|---|
| Pepperstone | Yes, SGD base currency | Deposits free; conversion rate for other currencies not in our verified terms |
| FP Markets | SGD is a funding currency | Conversion terms not in our data |
| ActivTrades | No (USD, EUR, GBP, CHF, SEK) | 0.5% fee when the transaction currency differs from the base currency |
| XS | No (USD, EUR, JPY) | Deposits in EUR, USD or GBP only, so SGD must be converted before it arrives |
What a 0.5% charge costs on a typical deposit
Simple arithmetic on ActivTrades' published 0.5% rate, applied each way:
- S$1,000 deposited into a USD account: about S$5 lost on the way in.
- S$10,000: about S$50.
- Withdraw the same amount back to SGD and a similar charge can apply again, so the round trip is roughly double.
- With XS, the conversion happens before the money reaches the broker, at whatever rate your bank or card issuer applies.
Conversion you cannot avoid
Even with an SGD account, most of what you trade is priced in other currencies. Profit or loss on EUR/USD or gold is in US dollars, and it is converted into SGD when booked. The rate used is not stated in the Pepperstone terms we verified, so ask support before you trade size. Also note that Pepperstone publishes no Singapore-specific payment rail such as PayNow or FAST; cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Neteller and Skrill are the methods listed.

Can I change my Pepperstone account currency later?
The terms we verified do not cover switching. Choose SGD when you open the account if you plan to fund in Singapore dollars.
Does Pepperstone accept PayNow?
PayNow is not among the deposit methods published on Pepperstone's international site.
Is an SGD account more expensive to trade?
Not on the published figures: Razor commission of SGD 4.55 per side is Pepperstone's SGD equivalent of USD 3.50.
Leveraged CFD trading is high risk: losses can build quickly and may wipe out your deposit. Pepperstone's international site reports that 80% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. This is not investment advice; verify current terms directly with any broker you consider.
