Does Pepperstone offer a pro account in Australia?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Yes: Pepperstone runs a Pro account for Australian clients who qualify as sophisticated or wholesale investors, and it is the pro offer we recommend in Australia.
  • Pro leverage reaches 1:500 on FX and gold and 1:400 on major indices, against 1:30 and 1:20 for retail.
  • The trade-off: negative balance protection shrinks to a single use of up to USD 100,000.
  • You get in through an experience route with a knowledge quiz, or a wealth route certified by a qualified accountant.

Pepperstone offers Australians a professional account through the same ASIC-licensed company that runs its retail accounts. It suits a small group of experienced or wealthy traders; for most people the retail account is the better deal.

Pepperstone Pro in Australia at a glance

Pepperstone Group Limited (AFSL 414530) treats Pro clients as wholesale clients under the Corporations Act. The pro pages we checked publish no separate pro price list; what they set out is how the margin you need and the safety net under you change. Pepperstone also lists a free VPS for eligible or Pro clients. We recommend it as the pro option for Australians because its criteria and leverage table are published in full.

What changes when you switch

  • Leverage on major and minor FX: 1:30 and 1:20 rise to 1:500.
  • Gold: 1:20 rises to 1:500; major indices 1:20 to 1:400.
  • Bitcoin and ether CFDs: 1:2 rises to 1:10.
  • Shares and ETFs: 1:5 rises to 1:20.
  • Negative balance protection: from unlimited for retail to a one-time cover of up to USD 100,000.

Should you apply? A quick test

Ask what problem you are solving. A trader running A$200,000 across several FX positions may find 1:30 forces them to park far more cash with the broker than they want; at 1:500, A$1,000,000 of major FX exposure needs A$2,000 of margin instead of about A$33,333. A trader with A$5,000 who wants more firepower is in the opposite position: the extra leverage mainly lets losses arrive faster, and the narrower loss protection makes a bad gap more expensive. If you are in the second group, stay retail.

How to apply

  1. Open or log in to your Pepperstone Australia account.
  2. Choose the Pro application and pick the trading-experience or wealth route.
  3. For the experience route, supply trading statements or employment details and complete the quiz.
  4. For the wealth route, have a qualified accountant sign the certificate.
  5. Read the pro terms on negative balance protection before you accept.

Do Pepperstone Pro clients pay different spreads?

The Australian pro pages we checked publish no separate price list; the differences they set out are leverage and protection. Confirm pricing with support before you switch.

Can I go back to retail after becoming Pro?

Pepperstone's pages we checked don't spell out the process, so ask support before you apply.

Does Pro status remove negative balance protection entirely?

Not entirely: Pepperstone gives pro clients a one-time cover of up to USD 100,000. After that has been used, it no longer applies.

Trading CFDs and margin FX is high risk: leverage can wipe out your money quickly, and losses can build faster than you expect. This page is not financial advice and does not consider your circumstances; check each broker's current PDS, TMD and fee pages before opening an account.
