Is forex trading halal, and which brokers offer compliant accounts?
Verdict
- Whether forex trading is halal is a question for a qualified scholar, and opinions differ; Pepperstone remains our overall pick for UAE traders, but it does not offer its swap-free account to UAE residents.
- Swap-free (Islamic) accounts remove overnight interest; they do not settle the other questions scholars raise, such as leverage, immediate settlement and speculation.
- For UAE residents, Capital.com and XS both offer swap-free accounts; XS applies it automatically and says it adds no fees in place of swap.
- Equiti, ADSS, Plus500, eToro and IG's Dubai entity also publish swap-free options, with very different fee structures.
We are a broker-comparison site, not a fatwa authority, so we will not rule on whether forex is halal. What we can do is explain which part of a trading account swap-free status changes, and which brokers offer such accounts to UAE residents on what terms.
Pepperstone: our overall pick, but not for swap-free in the UAE
Pepperstone is our top-rated broker for UAE traders on costs, platforms and AED funding. Its swap-free account, however, is open only to residents of 23 listed countries, and the UAE is not one of them. Where it is offered, it uses Standard-account pricing, a minimum opening balance of AUD 200, and an admin charge once a trade has been held for five days (USD 100 per standard lot on FX and precious metals, in Pepperstone's table). If you trade on a standard account, Pepperstone is our recommendation; if you need swap-free, choose one of the brokers below.

What scholars commonly discuss
Ask a scholar you trust, with the broker's actual swap-free terms in front of you.
- Interest (riba): overnight swap is interest-like, which is what swap-free accounts remove.
- Settlement: some scholars require currency exchanges to settle immediately; a rolling CFD is not a spot exchange in that sense.
- Excessive uncertainty and speculation (gharar, maysir): high leverage and very short-term trading raise these questions.
- Admin fees: some scholars see a fixed fee that replaces swap as acceptable, others as interest under another name.

Our order if you need a swap-free account
Capital.com first, for its CMA-licensed Dubai company and AED accounts, though you should ask it for the admin-fee terms it does not publish. XS second, for its plain statement that no fee replaces swap on most instruments.
