How do I trade gold online in the UAE?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • The usual way to trade gold online in the UAE is through a CFD account with a broker such as Pepperstone, our pick, where you trade XAU/USD price moves without owning the metal.
  • With Pepperstone you can open an AED account, fund it by Mashreq Bank or Barclays transfer, card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and trade gold with up to 1:200 retail leverage.
  • Choose Razor for a tighter spread (0.12 on average plus $3.50 per side) or Standard for an all-in spread (0.19 on average, no commission).
  • If you need a swap-free account, Pepperstone does not offer one to UAE residents; Capital.com and XS do.

Trading gold online means speculating on its price through a broker account, usually with CFDs on XAU/USD. The steps are the same with any broker; we use Pepperstone, our top pick for gold in the UAE, as the worked example, and flag where you might choose Capital.com or XS instead.

Step 1: open an account with a broker you have checked

Pepperstone's UAE site names three companies: a DFSA-regulated firm in the DIFC (F004356), a Dubai LLC licensed by the UAE CMA for introduction and consultation, and Pepperstone Markets Limited, regulated in the Bahamas (SIA-F217), which issues the CFDs to retail clients. Know that before you sign. Then pick an account: Razor (gold 0.12 on average plus $3.50 per side) or Standard (0.19 on average, no commission). The minimum deposit is $10.

Step 2: fund the account in dirhams

Pepperstone offers AED as a base currency, which avoids converting every deposit and withdrawal. Its UAE funding options are:

Mashreq Bank or Barclays local transferNoneUp to 2 business days
Visa or Mastercard$10Instant
Apple Pay or Google PayNoneInstant

Step 3: size the trade before you place it

Leverage decides how much margin a position ties up, and also how fast it can lose. With Pepperstone's UAE retail limit of 1:200 on gold, every $10,000 of gold exposure needs $50 of margin. Using an illustrative gold price of $4,000 an ounce:

  • 10 ounces = $40,000 exposure, $200 margin at 1:200.
  • Each $1 move in the gold price changes that position's value by $10.
  • A $20 drop, about 0.5%, would wipe out the $200 margin entirely.
  • Spread cost on 10 ounces at Razor's 0.12 average: $1.20, plus commission.

Step 4: place the trade on the platform you prefer

Search for XAU/USD, set the size, add a stop-loss and a take-profit, and confirm. On Pepperstone you can do this on MT5, cTrader or the Pepperstone app with either account, or on MT4 and TradingView with Razor. Remember that a stop-loss is not guaranteed to fill at your level in a fast market. Positions held past the daily rollover pay or earn swap; UAE residents who need swap-free terms should look at Capital.com, which offers them here and holds a UAE CMA licence.

Step 5: withdraw and keep records

Pepperstone sends money back to the method you paid in with. It lists Apple Pay and Google Pay withdrawals as immediate, cards within 1 business day, and local bank transfers within 2 business days. Make a small withdrawal early on so you know the process works before your balance grows.

Do I own gold when I trade XAU/USD CFDs?

No. A CFD tracks the gold price; you never own or take delivery of metal. That is what lets you go short as easily as long.

How much money do I need to start trading gold online?

Pepperstone's minimum deposit is $10, but a sensible starting balance is one where a normal stop-loss is a small fraction of your account, not most of it.

Can I trade gold online in the UAE without paying swap?

Not with Pepperstone, which does not offer swap-free accounts to UAE residents. Capital.com and XS both offer them, or you can close positions before the daily rollover.

Trading CFDs on margin is high risk: leverage can wipe out your deposit quickly, and most traders should consider whether they can afford that loss. Nothing here is investment advice. Broker terms, spreads and fees change, so confirm them with the broker before you trade.
