Where can I trade Hong Kong and Japanese share CFDs?

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick for Hong Kong share CFDs from Singapore: it lists 46 HKEX stocks, charges 0.2% commission per side on them on its international site, and lets you hold the account in HKD or SGD.
  • For Japan, Pepperstone gives you the JPN225 index CFD rather than individual Japanese companies; its published share range covers the US, UK, Europe, Australia and Hong Kong only.
  • Singapore residents are served by Pepperstone Markets Limited, licensed by the Securities Commission of The Bahamas (SIA-F217). Pepperstone holds no MAS licence.
  • If you need single Japanese stocks as CFDs, or a MAS-licensed firm, check the product lists of IG Asia, CMC Markets Singapore or Saxo directly; we have not verified their Japanese ranges.

Hong Kong shares are easy to find as CFDs; individual Japanese stocks are much harder. Below is what Pepperstone actually lists for each market, what a Hong Kong trade costs there, and where its range stops.

Hong Kong shares: Pepperstone's HKEX range

Pepperstone's share CFD list includes 46 stocks from the Hong Kong exchange, next to about 200 ASX names, 600+ US shares, 100+ LSE shares and a European range. Its account tables count 1,162 share CFDs in all (data sourced in March 2025). On the international site that Singapore residents are routed to, Hong Kong share CFDs cost 0.2% of the trade value per side. HKD and SGD are both available as base currencies, so you can keep Hong Kong profits in Hong Kong dollars or report everything in Singapore dollars. Retail leverage on stocks is up to 1:20 under the Bahamas entity. Both account types run MT4, MT5, cTrader and Pepperstone's own web platform and app; Razor adds TradingView.

What a Hong Kong share CFD trade costs

Take a HK$50,000 position in a Hang Seng constituent, opened and closed in a HKD account:

  • Commission: 0.2% on the way in (HK$100) and 0.2% on the way out (HK$100), so HK$200 for the round trip.
  • Margin at 1:20: HK$2,500 set aside while the trade is open.
  • Spread: the gap between buy and sell prices on the stock, on top of commission.
  • Overnight financing: charged on positions held past the daily rollover, long or short.

Japanese shares: index exposure only

Pepperstone does not list Japanese single-stock CFDs among the share markets it publishes. Its route into Japan is the JPN225 index CFD. Its Australian site gives JPN225 spreads (August 2026 data) of 7 points minimum and 7.4 average on Razor, and 9 and 9.4 on Standard, with no commission on index CFDs. That works if your view is on the Japanese market as a whole. If you want Toyota or Sony as individual positions, Pepperstone is not the broker for it, and nothing in our verified data shows XS offering them either.

Before you open an account for Asian shares

  1. List the exact tickers you want and search them in the broker's platform or symbol list before depositing.
  2. Check the commission per side for that exchange, not the headline FX price.
  3. Decide on the base currency: HKD avoids conversion on Hong Kong trades; SGD keeps your reporting simple.
  4. Confirm which company holds your account. With Pepperstone it is the Bahamas entity, with no MAS licence and no named compensation scheme.
  5. If MAS supervision matters to you, compare IG Asia, CMC Markets Singapore and Saxo Capital Markets, which all hold MAS licences.
