Which CFD brokers offer a free demo account?
Verdict
- Pepperstone is the CFD broker we would practise with as a Hong Kong trader, but demo-account terms such as length or virtual balance are not in the verified data we hold for Pepperstone, Capital.com or XS, so we do not quote them.
- What carries over from practice to live trading is the platform: Pepperstone's Razor account runs MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView and its own app.
- When practice stops teaching you anything, Pepperstone's live minimum is $10, so you can trade micro sizes with real money.
- Pepperstone serves Hong Kong from the Bahamas (SCB, SIA-F217) without an SFC licence.
Most CFD brokers advertise practice accounts, but the terms change often and none of the three brokers we rank for Hong Kong publishes them in the data we verified. So rather than repeat claims we cannot check, this page covers what a demo should teach you and why we would do it with Pepperstone.
Why we would practise with Pepperstone
A demo is worth as much as its match with the live account. Pepperstone's live Razor account publishes a 0.1-pip average spread on EUR/USD and a 5-point average on HK50, and it connects to five platforms, so whatever you learn on MT5, cTrader or TradingView applies directly when you switch to real money. Its Smart Trader Tools for MetaTrader also include a named Trade Simulator. And the step from practice to live is small: $10 opens a live account in HKD or USD, where a micro lot of EUR/USD costs cents. Remember the licence point: Pepperstone has no SFC licence, and Hong Kong accounts are held in the Bahamas.

Questions to ask about any demo
- Does it expire, and can you reset the balance?
- Are prices the same feed as the live account, including spreads at the HK50 open and around US data?
- Does it charge virtual overnight financing, so holding costs show up?
- Can you set the virtual balance to what you will really deposit? Practising with a large sum teaches the wrong sizing.
What a demo cannot teach
A demo has no slippage pressure and no fear. Fills in a fast market, the urge to move a stop, and the cost of withdrawing all appear only with real money. That is why we suggest a short demo, then a small live account: at Pepperstone, retail clients of the Bahamas entity are protected against negative balances, so a live micro account cannot leave you owing money.

Does Pepperstone offer a free demo account?
Demo terms are not part of the verified data we hold, so we do not state them. Check the sign-up page for the current offer.
How long should I use a demo before trading live?
Long enough to learn the platform and your order types. Beyond that, a small live account teaches more because costs and emotions are real.
What is the smallest live account at Pepperstone?
$10, or the equivalent in HKD or another base currency.
