Which CFD brokers offer guaranteed stop losses in the UK?
Verdict
- Pepperstone, our overall pick for UK CFD traders, does not offer guaranteed stop-losses; its UK terms say stop orders cannot be guaranteed to fill at your level.
- Capital.com, IG, CMC Markets, Spreadex, FOREX.com, StoneX Trading, OANDA and Plus500 all publish guaranteed stops for UK clients, charged in different ways.
- IG, FOREX.com, StoneX and OANDA charge a premium only if the stop is triggered; CMC charges to attach one and refunds it if it is not triggered; Plus500 builds the cost into a wider spread.
- If a guaranteed stop is essential to you, Capital.com is the firm we would choose; if not, Pepperstone's costs and platforms keep it first.
A guaranteed stop-loss closes your trade at exactly the level you set, even if the market gaps through it. Pepperstone does not offer one in the UK, so we say so first and then show who does, how they charge, and when Pepperstone remains the better account anyway.
Pepperstone: no guaranteed stops, but retail protection
Pepperstone publishes no guaranteed stop-loss on its UK site, and its UK terms (February 2026) state that it cannot guarantee stop-loss or limit orders will execute at the specified level. What retail clients do get is negative balance protection, so a gap cannot leave you owing money, plus FSCS cover up to £85,000 for eligible clients. We still rank Pepperstone first for most UK traders because of its low published costs, a £10 minimum and five platforms; if you seldom hold through weekends or major announcements, ordinary stops plus sensible sizing may be enough.

Our pick if you need one: Capital.com
Capital.com combines guaranteed stops with an FCA-regulated UK company (Capital Com (UK) Limited, 793714), a 20 GBP minimum deposit, spread betting and CFD accounts, and MT4, MT5 and TradingView. It is our second-ranked broker for UK traders, and the first we would point to when the exit price must be fixed.

When a guaranteed stop earns its cost
- Holding over weekends, when markets can open well away from Friday's close.
- Holding through scheduled events such as central-bank decisions or company results.
- Trading single shares, which can gap on news far more than major currency pairs.
- Running a small account where one slipped stop would end your trading.

Does Pepperstone offer a guaranteed stop-loss in the UK?
No. Pepperstone UK does not publish one, and its terms say stops cannot be guaranteed. Negative balance protection still applies to retail clients.
Is a guaranteed stop-loss free?
Rarely in practice. Most firms charge a premium when it triggers, CMC charges to attach one (refunded if unused), and Plus500 widens the spread.
Is negative balance protection the same as a guaranteed stop?
No. Negative balance protection stops your account going below zero; a guaranteed stop fixes the exit price of one trade.
Guaranteed stops limit the loss on a single trade but do not make CFDs safe: they are complex, leveraged products and you can lose money fast. Charges and availability vary. Not investment advice.
