Which broker offers the best value for small accounts?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone gives small accounts the best value among brokers that accept Singapore residents: a $10 minimum, an SGD base currency, free card and e-wallet deposits from $10, and no inactivity fee.
  • On small trades, Razor still beats Standard: per 10,000 units of EUR/USD, about $0.80 all-in on Razor (MT5) against $1.10 on Standard, using Pepperstone's published averages.
  • Watch one rule: Pepperstone may archive accounts holding under 10 currency units that have gone unused for three months or more.
  • XS accepts Singapore residents, but its 0.1-pip Elite pricing needs $500, and it has no SGD account.

With a few hundred dollars, fixed costs matter more than headline spreads: a $20 wire fee or a 0.5% conversion charge can wipe out a month of careful trading. We compared the brokers in our data that accept Singapore residents on the costs a small account actually meets, and Pepperstone comes out ahead.

Pepperstone: built for starting small

Pepperstone sets minimum funding at '$10 or your local equivalent', and Singapore traders can open the account in Singapore dollars, so an SGD deposit lands without a currency switch. Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Neteller and Skrill all take deposits from $10 at no charge. There is no inactivity or account-keeping fee. The catch is regulation: your account sits with Pepperstone Markets Limited in Nassau, licensed by the Securities Commission of The Bahamas (SIA-F217), not with a MAS-licensed firm.

Razor or Standard on a small balance?

Commission is charged per lot, so it shrinks with your trade size. On 10,000 units of EUR/USD, where a pip is worth about $1, Pepperstone's published averages work out like this:

  • Razor on MT5 or TradingView: 0.1 pips ($0.10) + $0.70 commission round turn = about $0.80.
  • Razor on cTrader: $0.10 + $0.60 = about $0.70.
  • Standard: 1.1 pips = about $1.10, no commission.
  • The Standard account runs on MT4, MT5, cTrader and Pepperstone's app; TradingView needs Razor.

How the alternatives compare for a small account

Capital.com is not an option here: our broker data lists Singapore among the countries it does not accept. Of the brokers that do accept Singapore residents, these publish small-account terms we could verify.

Small-account traps to avoid

Fixed costs hit a small balance hardest, so check these before your first deposit:

  • Withdraw by card or e-wallet rather than international wire if you can: Pepperstone lists them as free, while international bank-wire withdrawals cost $20.
  • Fund in the account's own currency to avoid conversion charges.
  • Keep the balance above 10 units, or trade at least occasionally, so Pepperstone does not archive the account.
  • Remember the leverage: up to 1:200 on FX at the Bahamas entity lets a small account open large positions, and large losses.

Terms as published on each broker's site.

Can I open a Pepperstone account with S$100?

Yes. The published minimum is $10 or the local equivalent, and SGD is one of the base currencies on Pepperstone's international site.

Does Pepperstone charge an inactivity fee?

No. It may archive an account that holds under 10 currency units and has been unused for three months or more.

Is a small account safer at a lower leverage?

Using less leverage than the maximum reduces how fast losses build. You choose your position size; the 1:200 cap is a limit, not a target.

Trading CFDs on leverage carries a high risk of rapid losses, and you can lose your whole deposit. Pepperstone's international site says 80% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. Nothing here is investment advice; check every fee and term with the broker before you trade.
