Which CFD broker in Singapore is best for beginners?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick for Singapore beginners who accept an offshore account: $10 to start, a Standard account with one all-in spread (1.1 pips average on EUR/USD), and negative balance protection for retail clients.
  • Beginners should weigh the missing MAS licence more heavily than experienced traders do: Pepperstone serves Singapore through its Bahamas entity.
  • Leverage up to 1:200 is available on FX, and Pepperstone's international site says 80% of retail accounts lose money with it.
  • If you want a MAS-licensed first account instead, eToro and CMC Markets both hold MAS licences and publish low entry points ($10 and $0).

A first CFD account should be cheap to open, simple to price and hard to blow up by accident. Pepperstone covers the first two well and gives retail clients protection against a negative balance. Its weak point for a new trader is regulation, so we set that out plainly next to the alternatives.

Pepperstone for a first account, if offshore is acceptable

Pepperstone lets you fund with $10 or the local equivalent, in an SGD account if you like, and the Standard account folds all costs into the spread, so the price you see is the price you pay. You can trade on Pepperstone's own app and web platform before learning MetaTrader or cTrader. If a trade goes badly wrong, the Bahamas entity's terms say retail clients are not liable for negative equity. For learning by example, the international site also offers CopyTrading by Pepperstone, cTrader Copy and MetaTrader Signals.

Standard or Razor: which account to open first

Most beginners trade small, so the gap in dollars is small too. Take a 0.1-lot EUR/USD trade (10,000 units, $1 a pip):

  • Standard: 1.1 pips average = about $1.10 for the round trip, nothing else to calculate.
  • Razor on MT5: 0.1 pips ($0.10) plus $0.70 commission = about $0.80.
  • Razor on cTrader: $0.10 plus $0.60 = about $0.70.
  • Razor saves money once you trade often; Standard is easier to read while you learn what a pip is worth.

The leverage trap for new traders

Under its Bahamas licence Pepperstone allows retail clients up to 1:200 on major FX, gold and major indices. At 1:200, $100 of margin controls a $20,000 position, and a 0.5% move against you wipes out that margin. The maximum is a ceiling, not a recommendation. Negative balance protection stops the account going below zero; it does nothing to stop you losing what is in it.

A first-month plan

  1. Read who you contract with: Pepperstone Markets Limited, Bahamas, SCB licence SIA-F217.
  2. Fund a small amount and withdraw part of it to see the round trip work.
  3. Trade one market, in the smallest size the platform allows.
  4. Write down the spread, commission and overnight financing on every trade.
  5. Only consider Razor or higher size once your records show a cost you understand.

Can a beginner lose more than they deposit at Pepperstone?

Not as a retail client of the Bahamas entity: its terms say retail clients are not liable for negative equity. Professional clients get only a discretionary one-time protection of up to USD 100,000.

What is the smallest amount I can start with?

Pepperstone's minimum is $10 or the local equivalent. eToro also starts at $10; CMC Markets lists no minimum.

Is copy trading a good way to learn?

It shows you how others trade, but you take on their losses as well as their gains. Pepperstone's international site lists CopyTrading by Pepperstone, which it says has 9000+ vetted traders, plus cTrader Copy and MetaTrader Signals.

Leveraged CFDs are complex and high risk, and beginners can lose money fast. Pepperstone's international site states that 80% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. Consider whether you understand how CFDs work before you start; this page is not investment advice.
