XM review: regulation, fees and the honest verdict
Verdict
- XM operates through three licensed entities: CySEC (Cyprus, 120/10), the DFSA (UAE, F003484) and Belize's FSC — the Belize entity is the one offering "flexible leverage up to 1000:1," far beyond what the CySEC entity is permitted to offer.
- Minimum deposit is $5, among the lowest we cover, and XM advertises "spreads as low as zero" on its Zero account without publishing an exact EUR/USD from-figure on its public pages.
- XM states withdrawals are processed by an automated system and typically arrive the same day the request is executed, while bank wire, credit or debit card withdrawals usually take 2-5 business days — XM's own claim, not a time we have measured ourselves.
- XM does not support crypto withdrawal, and does not publish a public funding-methods page — deposit and withdrawal options sit behind a login, so Gulf-specific payment rails can't currently be confirmed either way.
- XM offers a swap-free account, but does not publish its specific terms (admin fees, eligible instruments) on its public account-types page.
XM's $5 minimum deposit and "spreads as low as zero" marketing get it a lot of searches from people asking what it actually costs to open an account. The number worth knowing before you do: XM's most aggressive leverage figure comes from its Belize entity, not the one regulated by CySEC.
Is XM regulated?
XM's CySEC and DFSA entities are the two we could fully verify on public registers. Its Belize FSC listing shows XM Global Limited as active, registered for securities trading and transaction arrangement, though the specific licence number is not printed on the public register the way CySEC's is.
| Regulator | Jurisdiction | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| CySEC | Cyprus / EEA | 120/10 |
| DFSA | UAE (DIFC) | F003484 |
| FSC | Belize | Not printed on public register — XM Global Limited listed as Active |
Leverage: the Belize entity is where the big number lives
This is the single most important thing to know before comparing XM's leverage to another broker's headline figure: its CySEC-regulated entity caps retail leverage at 30:1, in line with EU rules. The "flexible leverage up to 1000:1" figure applies to XM Global Limited, regulated by Belize's FSC — a regime with materially lighter retail-protection requirements than CySEC's.
- If a comparison or ad quotes "1000:1" for XM, that figure is coming from the Belize entity, not the CySEC-regulated one.
- Check which entity's terms you're actually agreeing to before assuming the higher number applies to your account.
| Entity | Regulator | Max leverage |
|---|---|---|
| Trading Point of Financial Instruments Ltd | CySEC (Cyprus) | Up to 30:1, depending on instrument |
| XM Global Limited | FSC (Belize) | Flexible leverage up to 1000:1 |
Fees and minimum deposit
XM's minimum deposit is $5 — one of the lowest of any broker we cover. Its Zero account is marketed with spreads "as low as zero," but XM does not publish a specific EUR/USD average-spread figure on its public pages the way Pepperstone does, so that claim isn't independently checkable the way a published average is.

Withdrawals: what XM claims
XM's help centre states: "Withdrawal requests are processed instantly by our Artificial Intelligence Back Office System... You'll receive your money immediately, or on the same day your request is executed. Withdrawals via bank wire, credit or debit card usually take 2-5 business days to reach your account." That's XM's own claim — we have not yet completed a first-party timed test to confirm it, and XM does not support crypto withdrawal at all.
The verdict
- XM's $5 minimum deposit is genuinely one of the lowest we cover, and its CySEC and DFSA licences are checkable on public registers.
- Its headline leverage figure (up to 1000:1) belongs to the Belize-regulated entity, not the CySEC one — confirm which entity you're signing up under before treating that number as your own.
- XM publishes no exact EUR/USD spread figure and no crypto withdrawal option — two real gaps against brokers we cover that do.

Is XM legit?
XM's CySEC (Cyprus) and DFSA (UAE) entities are verifiable on public regulator registers. Its Belize FSC entity — the one offering up to 1000:1 leverage — is listed as an active registrant, though under a materially lighter regulatory regime than CySEC or the DFSA.
What is XM's minimum deposit?
$5, per XM's own site — one of the lowest minimum deposits among the brokers we cover.
What is XM's maximum leverage?
It depends entirely on which entity you're onboarded under: up to 30:1 through the CySEC-regulated entity, or flexible leverage up to 1000:1 through XM Global Limited, regulated by Belize's FSC.
Does XM support crypto withdrawals?
No. Per our data, XM does not currently support withdrawal via cryptocurrency, unlike some brokers we cover.
How fast are XM withdrawals?
XM's own page states withdrawals are processed same-day by an automated system, with bank wire, credit or debit card transfers typically taking 2-5 business days. That's XM's claim; we have not yet completed a first-party timed test to confirm it.
Nothing here is investment advice. CFDs carry a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage, and most retail accounts lose money.
