Do Australian brokers offer volume rebates for active traders?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone, our top pick for active traders in Australia, publishes no volume-rebate schedule on the pricing pages we checked; its lowest built-in rate is the cTrader Razor commission of USD 3.00 per side on FX, against USD 3.50 on MT5.
  • We found no tiered rebate table on the public pricing pages of the ASIC-licensed brokers we track: Pepperstone, IC Markets, Vantage, FP Markets, CMC Markets and Capital.com.
  • The published levers that do cut costs are platform choice, account type and the commission structure itself: Vantage and FP Markets list USD 3.00 per side on raw accounts, IC Markets USD 3.50.
  • If a broker offers you a rebate privately, get the rate, the volume threshold and the payment method in writing before you trade on it.

Short answer: rebates for heavy volume exist in the industry, but the Australian brokers we track don't publish them, so you can't compare them on paper. What you can compare is the commission each broker prints, and at Pepperstone the cheapest route for a busy forex trader is already built in: Razor on cTrader.

Pepperstone's answer: a lower commission instead of a rebate

Pepperstone Group Limited (ASIC AFSL 414530) charges Razor clients a commission per standard lot, and the rate depends on the platform. On a USD account it is USD 3.50 per side on MT5, TradingView and the Pepperstone platform, USD 7 charged when the position opens on MT4, and USD 3.00 per side on cTrader for FX. An AUD account pays AUD 3.50 per side on MT5. Spreads on Razor average 0.1 pips on EUR/USD, Pepperstone says. For someone trading 100 round-turn lots of EUR/USD a month, moving from MT5 to cTrader saves USD 1 a lot, or USD 100 a month, with no application, no volume threshold and no claw-back. That is the closest thing to a published rebate we found, and it is the main reason Pepperstone is our first choice for active forex traders here.

Are there brokers that refund or reduce commissions for high-volume traders?

On published terms, no broker in our Australian data set lists a refund or sliding commission scale. The reductions you can actually verify come from picking the lower-commission account or platform. Here is what each ASIC broker prints for EUR/USD on its raw-pricing account:

Published raw-account commission on EUR/USD, per standard lot
Broker (ASIC AFSL)AccountCommission per sideSpread figure published
Pepperstone (414530)Razor, cTraderUSD 3.000.1 pips average
Pepperstone (414530)Razor, MT5USD 3.500.1 pips average
IC Markets (335692)Raw SpreadUSD 3.500.01 pips average
FP Markets (286354)RawUSD 3.000.11 pips average
Vantage (428901)Raw ECNUSD 3.00from 0.0 pips (minimum)

What a 'rebate' is worth at realistic volumes

Run the numbers before chasing a private deal. At USD 10 a pip on EUR/USD, every USD 1 of commission saved per round turn equals 0.1 pips. A trader doing 400 lots a month on Pepperstone MT5 pays roughly USD 3,200 in spread and commission at the published average (USD 8 a lot); the same volume on cTrader costs about USD 2,800. A rebate would need to beat that USD 400 gap to be worth switching platforms for.

  • Spread matters as much as commission: a broker with a lower commission but a wider average spread can end up dearer.
  • Rebates usually come with conditions such as minimum monthly lots or a professional-client classification; ask what happens in a quiet month.
  • Overnight swap is a separate charge and is not reduced by any commission discount.

Questions to ask before accepting any volume deal

  1. Ask which entity pays the rebate and whether it is written into your client agreement.
  2. Confirm whether it is paid as cash to your balance or as a commission discount.
  3. Check whether you must be classed as a wholesale (pro) client, which removes most retail protections.
  4. Compare the deal against simply using the broker's cheapest published platform.
