Which UAE-regulated brokers offer segregated client funds and negative balance protection?
Verdict
- Pepperstone is our pick: its UAE retail risk disclosure says retail clients are entitled to negative balance protection, and its UAE protection page says client money is segregated.
- Two caveats: Pepperstone's UAE retail CFDs are issued by its Bahamas company, and no investor compensation scheme is named for UAE clients.
- IG's Dubai company offers a limited-risk account on which you cannot lose more than you deposit; on its standard trading account you can.
- Capital.com's help centre says retail balances are reinstated to $0 without naming the entity; XS publishes nothing on it in our data, so ask in writing before you deposit.
Two protections matter most if a broker or a market goes wrong: your money kept apart from the broker's own, and a floor that stops a fast market leaving you in debt. Here is what each broker with a UAE licence publishes on both.
Pepperstone: both protections, published
Pepperstone's retail risk disclosure for its UAE business, issued by Pepperstone Financial Services LLC, states that retail clients are entitled to negative balance protection. Its UAE "how we protect you" page says client money is held separately, though it cites Australia's Corporations Act 2001 — the text as published. Professional clients are treated differently: they may receive a one-time negative balance protection of up to $100,000, and nothing beyond it.

How negative balance protection works in practice
Say you hold $1,000 and a weekend gap moves an over-sized position $1,300 against you. Without protection, you would owe the broker $300. With retail negative balance protection, Pepperstone resets the account to zero and the loss stops at your $1,000. It limits how much you can lose; it does not limit how quickly you can lose your deposit, so position size still matters.
Questions to put to any broker in writing
- Which company will hold my money, and under which regulator?
- Is client money kept in segregated accounts, and at which banks?
- Does negative balance protection apply to my account type, and does it change if I become a Pro client?
- Is any compensation scheme available if the company fails?
