Pepperstone or Moomoo, which is better for leveraged trading?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • For leveraged CFD and forex trading, Pepperstone is our pick: retail clients on its international site get up to 1:200 on FX, gold and major indices, with negative-balance protection in its terms.
  • We hold no verified data on Moomoo's products, margin rates or licences, so we do not quote them; check Moomoo's Singapore site and the MAS directory before comparing.
  • Pepperstone holds no MAS licence: Singapore residents are served by Pepperstone Markets Limited, licensed in the Bahamas (SCB SIA-F217).
  • Higher leverage cuts the margin you post, not the risk; Pepperstone says 80% of retail accounts lose money with this entity.

Leverage questions come down to three facts: how much you can borrow on each market, what happens if a trade goes past zero, and which regulator sets those limits. Pepperstone publishes all three. For Moomoo we could not verify the equivalent figures, so we tell you what to ask.

Pepperstone's leverage, market by market

Pepperstone's international site, which Singapore visitors are routed to, lists these retail maximums. Professional clients who self-certify can go higher, up to 1:500 on FX, gold and major indices, but give up the retail protections.

The protection that matters with leverage

Under the Bahamas entity's terms, retail clients are not liable for negative equity, so a gap past your stop cannot leave you owing money. Pepperstone Pro clients only get a discretionary, one-time cover of up to USD 100,000. No compensation scheme is named for this entity, and Pepperstone does not publish guaranteed stops, so a stop in a fast market can fill at a worse price.

What to check on Moomoo

Our verified data does not cover Moomoo, so we make no claim about what it offers. Before you weigh it against Pepperstone, find these on Moomoo's own Singapore pages:

  1. Which leveraged products it offers to retail clients, for example CFDs, margin stock accounts or options, and on which markets.
  2. The margin rate or interest charged on borrowed money.
  3. The Singapore company name, then confirm it in the MAS Financial Institutions Directory.
  4. Whether a loss can exceed your deposit.

What leveraged trading costs at Pepperstone

  • EUR/USD on Razor: 0.1-pip average plus $3.50 per side on MT5 (SGD 4.55 if your account is in SGD).
  • EUR/USD on Standard: 1.1-pip average, no commission.
  • Overnight positions pay or receive swap; check the rate on your platform.
  • US share CFDs: $0.02 per share commission.

Can I lose more than I deposit with Pepperstone?

Not as a retail client: the Bahamas entity's terms say retail clients are not liable for negative equity. Pro clients get only a one-time discretionary cover.

Margin trading in CFDs is risky: a small price move against you can cost far more than you expect. Check that you understand leverage and can absorb losses. This is general information, not financial advice.
