How do trading fees differ between MT4 and TradingView accounts?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • At Pepperstone, our pick in Australia, MT4 and TradingView both run on the Razor account, so spreads are the same and the total FX commission is the same: 7 per standard lot round turn in a USD account.
  • The difference is timing: MT4 charges the whole USD 7 (AUD 7 in an AUD account) when the position opens; TradingView charges USD 3.50 when you open and USD 3.50 when you close.
  • Neither MT4 nor TradingView is available on Pepperstone's Standard account in Australia; Standard (no commission, EUR/USD 1.1 pips average) runs on MT5, cTrader and Pepperstone's platform.
  • cTrader is the cheaper Razor platform for FX at USD 6 per round turn.

At most brokers the platform doesn't change your price; the account type does. Pepperstone is a clear example: MT4 and TradingView are both Razor-only in Australia, so they share Razor's raw spreads, and the only fee difference is when the commission is taken.

Fees on MT4 and TradingView at Pepperstone

Pepperstone Group Limited (ASIC, AFSL 414530) publishes its Razor commission by platform. Razor's EUR/USD spread averages 0.1 pips on every platform. Here is what one standard lot of EUR/USD costs, opened and closed in a USD account, at that average:

One standard lot of EUR/USD on Pepperstone Razor (USD account, $10 per pip)
PlatformCommissionWhen it's chargedSpreadTotal
MT4USD 7All at opening$1$8
TradingViewUSD 3.50 + USD 3.50Half at opening, half at closing$1$8
MT5USD 3.50 + USD 3.50Per side$1$8
cTraderUSD 3.00 + USD 3.00Per side$1$7

Does the timing matter?

Over a full trade, no: both come to the same total. It shows up in two places. First, MT4 shows the full commission as soon as you open, so a new position starts further in the red than the same trade on TradingView. Second, partial closes: on a per-side platform you pay closing commission in proportion to what you close. Neither changes your monthly bill if you open and close the same volume.

Fees that are the same on both

  • Spreads: Razor's raw spreads apply on both, e.g. 0.1 pips average on EUR/USD and 0.12 on gold.
  • Gold commission: on MT5 in an AUD account, Pepperstone lists AUD 4.50 per side on XAU/USD instead of AUD 3.50.
  • Index CFDs carry no commission; crypto CFDs carry no commission.
  • Share CFDs: 0.07% per side on ASX stocks and US$0.02 per share on US stocks.
  • Overnight financing on positions held past rollover, and free deposits and withdrawals.

If you'd rather pay no commission

Pepperstone's Standard account builds its cost into a wider spread (EUR/USD 1.1 pips average, about $11 per lot round turn) and charges no FX commission. In Australia it isn't available on MT4 or TradingView, so a commission-free account means MT5, cTrader or the Pepperstone platform. Capital.com, our second choice, also offers MT4 and TradingView; its EUR/USD pricing isn't in our verified data.
