How can I invest in US stocks from the UAE?
Verdict
- From the UAE you can either own US shares through a share-dealing platform or trade their prices as CFDs; for the CFD route, Pepperstone is our pick, with 600+ US stocks at a published $0.02 per share per side.
- Pepperstone's products are CFDs: you don't own the shares, and overnight financing makes them costly to hold for years, so they suit trading rather than long-term investing.
- To own shares, pick a platform that sells the stocks themselves and check which regulator covers the company you sign with: the DFSA in the DIFC, the FSRA in ADGM or the UAE CMA onshore.
- Capital.com, licensed by the UAE CMA through its Dubai company, is our second choice for US share CFDs; XS ranks third.
The honest answer starts with a question back to you: do you want to own Apple for ten years, or trade its price this week? The tools are different. We recommend Pepperstone for trading US stocks as CFDs, and we explain below when a share-dealing account is the better home for your money and how to set up either one from the UAE.
The trading route: US share CFDs with Pepperstone
If you want to trade US stock prices, including short positions, Pepperstone covers 600+ NYSE and Nasdaq stocks and 95 ETF CFDs (account table, March 2025 data), with a $0.02 per share per side commission on its published fee pages. It also quotes 100+ US stocks 24 hours a day on weekdays, which helps when the US session runs into the UAE night. Accounts open from $10, in AED or USD, and you can pay in through Mashreq Bank or Barclays. Retail leverage on shares is capped at 1:20. Your CFDs would be issued by Pepperstone Markets Limited, regulated in the Bahamas (SCB SIA-F217); the group's DIFC company is regulated by the DFSA (F004356).

Choose the route by your goal
| Your goal | Better route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Hold for years, collect dividends | Share-dealing account | No overnight financing, and you own the shares |
| Trade moves over days or weeks | Share CFDs | Low per-share commission, long or short |
| Profit from falling prices | Share CFDs | Selling first is built in |
| Avoid leverage entirely | Share-dealing account | CFDs always run on margin |
The ownership route: what to look for
For buy-and-hold investing, use a platform that buys the actual shares for you. eToro, for instance, distinguishes real stocks from CFD positions in its published terms, and its Abu Dhabi company holds an ADGM FSRA permission (220073); ask what that entity offers UAE residents before you open an account. Whichever platform you consider, find the company named in the client agreement and look it up on its regulator's public register. Then check how the shares are held in your name, what it charges to buy and sell, and whether there is a fee for converting dirhams to dollars.
Setting up a CFD account from the UAE, step by step
- Choose the base currency: USD avoids converting each US trade; AED suits salary transfers from a UAE bank.
- Pick the account: at Pepperstone, share commission is the same on Standard and Razor, so choose by platform (TradingView and MT4 need Razor).
- Fund with a small amount first, then test a withdrawal back to the same card or bank account.
- Start with an unleveraged-sized position: put up the full value in your account even though only 5% is required as margin.
Second and third choices for CFDs
- Capital.com: Dubai company licensed by the UAE CMA (20200000176), 20:1 share leverage, $20 minimum deposit, AED accounts and LEAN open-banking deposits. It also offers UAE residents a swap-free account, which Pepperstone does not.
- XS: share CFDs on MT4 and MT5; its Dubai entity is a financial-consultation company (CMA 20200000339), so ask which company would hold your account.
