Which trading app is best for trading gold and oil?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick for trading gold and oil from one app: a published gold spread average of 0.12 on Razor (0.19 on Standard) and 40 commodity CFDs in its account tables.
  • UAE retail leverage at Pepperstone is up to 1:200 on gold but 1:20 on energies, so oil positions need ten times more margin than gold positions of the same size.
  • Our data has no published oil spread for Pepperstone, Capital.com or XS, so check the live spread on WTI and Brent in the app before trading.
  • Capital.com's Dubai company lists retail leverage of 500:1 on gold and crude, far above Pepperstone's; FP Markets publishes 0.12 on gold for its Raw account.

Gold and oil behave differently and brokers price them differently, so the right app needs to be good at both. Pepperstone publishes a clear gold price and carries both crude benchmarks among its commodity CFDs, and it is our pick for UAE traders. Its oil pricing is where you will need to do your own checking.

Pepperstone for gold and oil

Gold is where Pepperstone's numbers are clearest: Razor averages 0.12 on XAU/USD and Standard 0.19, with Razor commission at $3.50 per side on every platform, including cTrader, where forex is cheaper. For oil, Pepperstone's commodity range includes energies, and its UAE retail margin table lists WTI and Brent perpetual CFDs (WTOIL-PERP and BRENTOIL-PERP) alongside GOLD-PERP; ask Pepperstone whether those perpetuals are open to your account type. UAE residents can trade both from the Pepperstone app, MT5 or cTrader on Standard, or on all five platforms with Razor, and fund in AED. Pepperstone Markets Limited (SCB, Bahamas) issues the CFDs, and the group's DIFC company is regulated by the DFSA.

Why the leverage gap between gold and oil matters

At Pepperstone, a gold position worth $20,000 needs about $100 of margin at 1:200, while an oil position of the same value needs about $1,000 at 1:20. That lower oil leverage is a safety margin as much as a restriction: oil prices can move sharply, and at 500:1, as Capital.com's Dubai company lists, a 0.2% move against a fully margined position wipes out the margin. Brokers that publish leverage group-wide or 'dynamic' limits without naming the entity, as FP Markets and XS do, leave you to confirm which limit actually applies to your account.

Checks before your first gold or oil trade

  • Look up the contract size and the value of a one-point move for XAU/USD and each crude contract in the app's symbol information.
  • Compare live spreads at the times you trade, especially around inventory reports and market opens.
  • Check the overnight swap on oil before holding it; Pepperstone offers no swap-free account to UAE residents.
  • Confirm whether you are trading a spot CFD or a perpetual CFD, which carries a funding rate set weekly and applied daily instead of swap.

Can I trade gold and oil in the same Pepperstone account?

Yes. Commodities, including gold and energies, are available on both Standard and Razor accounts.

Does Pepperstone charge commission on gold?

On Razor, yes: $3.50 per side on every platform. Standard has no commission and a wider gold spread, 0.19 on average.

Why is Pepperstone's oil leverage lower than its gold leverage?

Its UAE leverage table sets energies at 1:20 for retail clients and gold at 1:200, so oil positions need more margin.

Gold and oil CFDs are complex, leveraged products whose prices can move sharply, and you can lose money quickly. Spreads and leverage are taken from broker sites and can change. This is general information, not advice.
