Can I trade crypto CFDs on MT5?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Yes. Pepperstone, our pick in Australia, offers MetaTrader 5 on both its Standard and Razor accounts and publishes crypto CFD pricing for both.
  • Crypto CFDs at Pepperstone carry no commission on MT5 or any other platform; BTCUSD averages 15.15 on Razor and 20.15 on Standard.
  • MT5 lets you run expert advisors on crypto, and Pepperstone adds Smart Trader Tools add-ons for MT4 and MT5.
  • MT4 is Razor-only in Australia; Capital.com, our second choice, also offers MT5.

MT5 is a common way to trade crypto CFDs, and at Pepperstone it is available on both Australian account types. If you are setting up a crypto watchlist or an automated strategy in MetaTrader, here is what to expect.

Crypto on MT5 at Pepperstone

Pepperstone Group Limited (ASIC, AFSL 414530) lists MT5 among the platforms for both Standard and Razor accounts in Australia, and its crypto spreads page prices both accounts. Its ASIC margin table covers 44 coins against the US dollar plus BTC and ETH in AUD, EUR and GBP. Pepperstone doesn't publish a per-platform symbol list, so after you log in, add the coins you want to Market Watch (right-click, then Symbols) and check each one's specification. The usual Razor commission of AUD 3.50 per side on MT5 applies to FX, not to crypto CFDs.

Automating crypto trades on MT5

MT5 runs expert advisors (EAs), and crypto's 24/7 pricing is one reason traders automate it. Pepperstone supports algorithmic trading and EAs on MT4 and MT5 and offers a free VPS to eligible or professional clients, so an EA can keep running when your computer is off. Its Smart Trader Tools add-ons, including Trade Terminal, Mini Terminal and Correlation Matrix, plug into MT5 as well. Test any EA with small sizes first: the 1:2 retail leverage cap means each position uses a lot of margin.

Checks before your first MT5 crypto trade

  • Contract size: confirm how many coins one lot represents for each symbol.
  • Session hours: confirm the trading times shown in the symbol specification.
  • Swap long and swap short: the overnight financing per position.
  • Margin: the tiered-margin table can raise the margin percentage as position size grows.

Another MT5 option

Capital.com (ASIC, AFSL 513393) lists MT4, MT5 and TradingView alongside its own web platform and caps retail crypto leverage at 2:1. Its crypto spreads aren't in our verified data, so compare them in its platform.
