Can you compare trading costs across major forex brokers?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Yes. On published averages, Pepperstone is our pick for UAE traders: about $7 to $8 per lot of EUR/USD on its Razor account, with no inactivity fee and AED accounts.
  • A full comparison has five parts: spread, commission, overnight swap, payment fees and currency conversion. Most comparison tables stop at the first one.
  • XS Elite matches Pepperstone's cTrader cost at about $7 per lot but needs $500 to open and has no AED account.
  • Capital.com publishes no EUR/USD average in our data, so its trading cost cannot be put on the same scale; its strengths are a UAE CMA licence and a swap-free account for UAE residents.

We can, but only where brokers publish comparable numbers, and many do not. Below we line up what Pepperstone, Capital.com and XS disclose, convert it into dollars per lot and per month, and flag the gaps. Pepperstone comes out as our overall pick for a UAE-based forex trader.

Our pick on total cost: Pepperstone

Pepperstone publishes every piece a cost comparison needs: a 0.1-pip EUR/USD average on Razor, commission by platform ($3.50 per side on MT5, TradingView and its own platform; $7 charged at opening on MT4; $3.00 per side on cTrader), a 1.1-pip all-in Standard account, and no inactivity or account-keeping fee. UAE residents can hold the account in AED and fund it through Mashreq Bank or Barclays, so a dirham earner avoids a currency conversion each time money goes in or out. The CFDs themselves are issued from the Bahamas by Pepperstone Markets Limited (SCB SIA-F217), with a DFSA-regulated group company in the DIFC.

A month of trading, priced out

Take a trader who closes 20 standard lots of EUR/USD a month in a USD account and never holds a position overnight. On published averages:

  • Pepperstone Razor on cTrader: 20 × $7 = $140.
  • XS Elite: 20 × $7 = $140.
  • Pepperstone Razor on MT5 or TradingView: 20 × $8 = $160.
  • Pepperstone Standard: 20 × $11 = $220.

The costs that tables leave out

Swap is the big one. If you hold trades for several nights, the financing charge can be larger than the spread, and none of these brokers publish swap rates in a form we can compare line by line. The swap-free route changes the picture: Pepperstone does not offer its swap-free account to UAE residents, while XS says it applies swap-free status automatically without widening spreads or adding fees (crypto and shares are exceptions) and Capital.com offers one on request. Conversion is the other quiet cost: depositing dirhams into a USD-only account means a conversion on the way in and again on the way out. Other brokers add charges of their own; ActivTrades, for example, publishes a 0.5% fee when a payment's currency differs from the account currency, and Plus500 lists an inactivity fee of up to $10 a month after three months without a login.

Each figure comes from the broker's own pages.

Which cost matters most for a day trader?

Spread plus commission, because a day trader pays it on every round turn and rarely holds overnight. On Pepperstone Razor that is about $7 to $8 per lot of EUR/USD.

Which cost matters most for a swing trader?

The overnight swap. Ask for the swap rates on your pairs before you choose, and remember that Pepperstone's swap-free account is not available to UAE residents.

Does Pepperstone charge for deposits or withdrawals?

Pepperstone says it charges no withdrawal fees except on international bank wires. UAE local transfers through Mashreq Bank and Barclays take up to two business days.

CFDs are complex, leveraged products that carry a high risk of fast losses, and costs vary with market conditions, account type and platform. The figures above are broker-published and can change; this is not financial advice.
