Which brokers let you trade commodities on MetaTrader?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our first choice for trading commodities on MetaTrader in the UK: its 40 commodity markets are available on MT5 with every UK account, and on MT4 with Razor and spread-betting accounts.
  • Capital.com, IG, ActivTrades, Tickmill and FxPro, all with FCA-regulated UK companies, list both MT4 and MT5 on their sites; CMC Markets and FOREX.com UK list MT4.
  • Spreadex, Plus500, Saxo and Trading 212 did not show MetaTrader in our checks.
  • Pepperstone adds Smart Trader Tools add-ons to MT4 and MT5, such as a Correlation Matrix and Trade Terminal.

Plenty of UK brokers offer MetaTrader, but not every account at every broker does, and few let you spread bet through it. Pepperstone does both, which is why it is our pick. Below is which Pepperstone accounts reach MT4 and MT5, which other FCA-regulated brokers list MetaTrader, and what to check before you load an expert advisor onto a commodity chart.

Pepperstone: commodities on MT4 and MT5

Pepperstone Limited (FCA 684312) lists 40 commodity markets on its UK accounts. MT5 is available on all three — spread betting, Standard CFD and Razor CFD. MT4 is available on spread betting and Razor only. That means a UK trader can place a pounds-per-point spread bet on a commodity directly from MetaTrader. On top of the standard terminals Pepperstone provides Smart Trader Tools, including Trade Terminal, Correlation Matrix, Mini Terminal and Smart Lines.

Where MetaTrader is missing

Spreadex runs its own platform, apps and TradingView; Plus500 uses only its own platform; Saxo offers SaxoTrader, SaxoInvestor and third-party tools such as TradingView; and Trading 212 uses its own web and mobile app. None showed MT4 or MT5 in our checks. If MetaTrader is non-negotiable, these are out.

Checks before running commodity EAs

  1. Confirm which account type carries the platform. At Pepperstone a Standard CFD account has MT5 but not MT4.
  2. Check the commission model on the platform you choose: Pepperstone's Razor charges $7 per lot when an MT4 position opens, or $3.50 per side on MT5 (USD account).
  3. Read the leverage cap per commodity: 1:20 on gold and 1:10 on other commodities for Pepperstone UK retail clients.
  4. Ask about hosting. Pepperstone offers a free VPS to eligible and professional clients, which keeps an EA running when your computer is off.

Capital.com as the second choice

Capital.com offers MT4 and MT5 alongside its own platform and TradingView, holds an FCA authorisation for its UK company (793714), and lets clients use expert advisors. It also offers guaranteed stops, which Pepperstone does not. Its minimum deposit is 20 GBP. We rank it behind Pepperstone because our verified data holds no commodity count or gold spread for it.

Can I spread bet on commodities through MetaTrader?

With Pepperstone, yes: its UK spread-betting account runs on MT4 and MT5 as well as TradingView, cTrader and its own platform.

Does Pepperstone's Standard account include MT4?

No. In the UK, MT4 comes with Razor CFD and spread-betting accounts. The Standard CFD account offers MT5, cTrader and the Pepperstone platform.

Which UK brokers don't offer MetaTrader?

In our checks, Spreadex, Plus500, Saxo and Trading 212 did not list MT4 or MT5 on their sites.

CFDs and spread bets are complex and high risk because leverage magnifies losses as well as gains. Pepperstone Limited states that 73.6% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading these products with it. Broker terms change; confirm them before opening an account. Not investment advice.
