Which UK brokers are best for traders switching from another broker?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick for UK traders switching broker: its spread betting and CFD accounts run on MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView, so most existing setups move across without relearning a platform.
  • Pepperstone says broker-to-broker transfers from UK brokers are possible, subject to approval.
  • If you are switching to get guaranteed stops, Pepperstone is the wrong move: it doesn't offer them, while Capital.com does.
  • Run both accounts in parallel for a few weeks before closing the old one.

Most traders switch for one of three reasons: costs, platform or service. Pepperstone is our pick because it supports the platforms people already use, publishes its costs in detail and accepts UK broker transfers.

Why Pepperstone is easy to switch to

Pepperstone Limited (FCA 684312) supports every major third-party platform: spread betting runs on MT4, MT5, TradingView, cTrader and Pepperstone's own platform, and the Razor CFD account does too. That means expert advisors, indicators and chart layouts can come with you. Its funding page says broker-to-broker transfers from UK brokers are accepted subject to approval, and you can fund from £10 by card while you wait.

Will your platform come with you?

Note the gaps: on CFDs, MT4 and TradingView are Razor-only. If you are moving from a commission-free MT4 account elsewhere, you will either pay Razor's commission or switch to MT5 or spread betting.

What changes on cost when you switch

Compare your current broker's numbers with these before you move. Pepperstone publishes averages as well as minimums, which makes the comparison fairer.

  • Razor: EUR/USD average 0.1 pips plus commission from £2.25 per lot per side (GBP account).
  • Standard: EUR/USD average 1.1 pips, no commission.
  • Spread betting: EUR/USD minimum 0.5, no commission; overnight fees after 10 pm UK time.
  • No inactivity or account-keeping fee.

A switching checklist

  1. Ask Pepperstone support which assets and positions a transfer from your current UK broker can include.
  2. Export your EAs, indicators and templates, and test them on a Pepperstone demo or small live account.
  3. If you hold professional status elsewhere, check Pepperstone's 2-of-3 test before you assume it carries over.
  4. Close or transfer positions, then withdraw the remaining balance from the old broker to your own bank.

When another broker is the better switch

If the reason you are leaving is the lack of guaranteed stop-loss orders, Pepperstone won't fix it: its UK terms say stops cannot be guaranteed. Capital.com (FCA 793714) offers guaranteed stops, spread betting and MT4, MT5 and TradingView.

Can I transfer my account from another UK broker to Pepperstone?

Pepperstone's UK funding page says broker-to-broker transfers from UK brokers are subject to approval. Contact support with your current broker's details before you start.

Will my MT4 expert advisors work at Pepperstone?

MT4 is available on Pepperstone's spread betting and Razor accounts, so EAs written for MT4 can run there. Test them on a small account first.

Does professional status transfer between brokers?

Not automatically. Pepperstone UK assesses you against its own test: two of three criteria covering trading frequency, portfolio size and financial-sector experience.

Spread bets and CFDs are complex instruments and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly because of leverage. 73.6% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading spread bets and CFDs with Pepperstone Limited. Consider whether you understand how these products work and whether you can afford to lose your money. This page is general information, not investment advice.
