Which platform is best for commodity CFD trading?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • The setup we would choose for commodity CFDs is TradingView, MT5 or cTrader on a Pepperstone Razor account, our top pick in Singapore: those three carry both the standard commodity CFDs and Pepperstone's perpetuals on gold, WTI and Brent.
  • MT4 still suits expert-advisor users, but it does not carry Pepperstone's perpetual CFDs and takes the Razor commission in one go when a position opens.
  • Pepperstone's Standard account (no commission, wider spread) runs on its web platform and app, MT4, MT5 and cTrader, but not TradingView.
  • Singapore accounts are held by Pepperstone Markets Limited in the Bahamas; Pepperstone has no MAS licence.

A commodity CFD platform has to do three jobs well: chart fast markets like oil and gold cleanly, let you size positions against margin, and carry every contract your broker lists. The platform is software; the broker is who prices the trade. Here is how the choices compare at Pepperstone, and when another broker's platform is the better fit.

Our pick: a Pepperstone Razor account, then choose your screen

Pepperstone wins this one because Razor is the account type that opens on all five of its front ends: MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView and Pepperstone's own web platform and app. For commodities, the cost data is clearest on gold, with published averages of 0.12 on Razor and 0.19 on Standard, and the account tables count 40 commodity CFDs. Pepperstone says orders fill from 50 milliseconds with a 99.32% fill rate and no dealer intervention, based on trades from January to March 2026. Singapore residents can open in SGD with a $10 minimum.

Matching the platform to how you trade commodities

  • Swing trading oil: TradingView or MT5, for multi-timeframe charts on the WTI and Brent contracts.
  • Automated gold strategies: MT4 or MT5 with expert advisors, or cTrader Automate; Pepperstone offers a free VPS to eligible and Pro clients.
  • Weekend gold or index exposure: any front end except MT4, because perpetuals trade 24/7 but are not offered there.
  • Cheapest gold on Razor: XAU/USD commission is $3.50 per side on MT5, cTrader and TradingView alike, so choose between them on features rather than price.

When another broker's platform fits better

XS accepts Singapore residents and runs MT4, MT5 and its own XS Trading App, but the data we hold contains no commodity pricing for it. If you would rather trade on a MAS-licensed broker's own software, IG lists its web platform, MT4, MT5, ProRealTime and TradingView on its UK site; CMC Markets runs its Next Generation platform and MT4; Saxo offers SaxoTrader and TradingView; Plus500 has only its own platform. We have not verified their Singapore commodity ranges. Pepperstone has no MAS licence: accounts from Singapore are held by Pepperstone Markets Limited, licensed by the Securities Commission of The Bahamas (SIA-F217).

Can I use TradingView with a Pepperstone Standard account?

No. At Pepperstone's international entity TradingView comes with Razor only; Standard runs on the web platform and app, MT4, MT5 and cTrader.

Is MT4 or MT5 better for commodity CFDs?

At Pepperstone, MT5: it carries the perpetual CFDs on gold, WTI and Brent, which MT4 does not, and the round-trip Razor commission is the same.

Does the platform change what I pay?

Pepperstone publishes spread averages by account type; the Razor commission is what varies by platform, from $3.00 per side on cTrader FX to $3.50 per side elsewhere.

CFDs are complex and leveraged, and they carry a high risk of losing money rapidly. Choosing a good platform does not reduce that risk. This page is not investment advice; confirm current platform features and costs with the broker.
