What's the best broker for scalping gold?

Updated: 2026-10-21How we test

Verdict

  • Pepperstone is our pick for scalping gold: its Razor account publishes an average XAU/USD spread of 0.12 plus $3.50 commission per side, and Pepperstone says orders fill from 50 milliseconds with no dealer intervention.
  • One caveat: Pepperstone does not publish a scalping policy on the pages we checked, though it does support expert advisors, cTrader cBots and API trading. Confirm your strategy is allowed before you scale up.
  • Capital.com and XS also accept Hong Kong residents; both allow hedging, and neither publishes a scalping policy or a gold spread in our data.
  • From Hong Kong you would trade with Pepperstone Markets Limited (Bahamas, SIA-F217), which holds no SFC licence.

Scalping gold means paying the spread dozens of times a day, so the cost per round trip and the speed of each fill matter more than anything else. Pepperstone publishes both. Here is the per-trade maths, the tools a gold scalper will use, and the policy questions to settle first.

Pepperstone for gold scalpers, with one question to ask

Three published facts make Pepperstone the strongest fit: a 0.12 average gold spread on Razor, an execution claim of 'from 50 milliseconds, with a 99.32% fill rate and no dealer intervention' (based on trades from January to March 2026), and a choice of MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView on one account. What Pepperstone does not publish is an explicit scalping policy. Ask support to confirm in writing that your holding times and trade frequency are acceptable.

Breakeven per round trip

Gold is quoted in dollars per ounce. On Razor, the 0.12 average spread plus $7 of round-trip commission works out at about 0.19 per ounce if a lot is 100 ounces (check the contract size on your platform). Standard's average spread is also 0.19, with no commission. So at average conditions a gold scalper needs roughly a 19-cent move just to break even on either account. Razor only becomes cheaper when the spread is below average, so watch the live spread before you trade.

Tools a gold scalper will use

  • cTrader Automate for C# cBots, or expert advisors on MT4 and MT5.
  • API trading for your own execution code.
  • A free VPS for eligible and Pro clients, so an EA can run while your own computer is off.
  • Smart Trader Tools add-ons for MetaTrader, including Trade Terminal, Mini Terminal and Smart Lines.

Policies at the three brokers

None of the three publishes a scalping rule either way, so the answer has to come from each firm's support team.

Stops, slippage and the Hong Kong account

Pepperstone does not guarantee stop-loss orders; in a fast gold move a stop fills at the next available price. Retail clients under the Bahamas terms are not liable for negative equity, which limits the damage from a gap. There is no SFC licence and no named compensation scheme behind the account, so keep only active trading capital on deposit.
